What is Trichoderma-Bacillus?

Trichoderma and Bacillus are two powerful beneficial microbes that work together to improve soil and plant health.

Trichoderma is a fungus that colonizes plant roots, helping them grow stronger while protecting against diseases like root rot.

Bacillus is a type of bacteria that boosts nutrient uptake, breaks down organic matter, and increases plant resistance to stress.

Combined, they create a highly effective formula that strengthens roots, improves soil structure, and supports healthier, more resilient plants.

How to Use Trichoderma-Bacillus

1. For fresh Soil Before Planting

Prepare the soil with beneficial microbes before planting:

  • Spread Trichoderma-Bacillus evenly over the soil surface.
  • Mix thoroughly into the top layer of soil.
  • Spray water generously to activate the microbes.
  • Let the soil rest for 15 days before planting.

This gives the microbes time to condition the soil and create a healthier environment for root growth.

2. For Soil Around Existing Plants

Replenish soil health without disturbing your garden:

  • Spread the Trichoderma-Bacillus directly onto the soil around your plants.
  • Do not mix Trichoderma-Bacilluswith water beforehand.
  • Once spread, water the area well to activate the microbes.

This method helps improve root strength of your existing plants, and defend against soil-borne diseases.

3. For Spraying on Leaves and Stems

Use as a foliar spray to support plant health above ground:

  • Mix 100g of Trichoderma-Bacillus with 2 liters of clean water quickly and evenly.
  • Spray lightly onto the leaves, stems, and trunk—just enough to coat the surfaces.
  • Apply once a month; adjust the amount mixed based on your tree’s size.

This method helps strengthen the plant's immunity and reduces stress from pests or weather.

Frequently asked questions

What is Trichoderma fertilizer and how does it work?

Trichoderma fertilizer is a biofertilizer made from beneficial fungi of the Trichoderma genus. It enhances plant growth by suppressing harmful pathogens, solubilizing key nutrients (like phosphorus and zinc), and producing growth-promoting hormones (e.g., auxins, gibberellins)

What are the benefits of using Trichoderma in my soil?

Trichoderma helps you:

  • Fight soil-borne diseases (e.g., Fusarium, Pythium, Rhizoctonia)
  • Improve nutrient availability (P, Fe, Zn) and uptake
  • Stimulate healthier roots and stronger plants
  • Build better soil structure and water retention
How do I apply Trichoderma fertilizer?

Common application methods include:

  • Seed treatment: Coat seeds with a Trichoderma mix (e.g., ~5 g per kg seed) before sowing.
  • Soil drenching or incorporation: Mix into soil using organic carriers or water (e.g., 1–2 kg/acre in 200 L water).
  • Root-zone or foliar spray: Apply directly near roots or as a light spray, often repeated every 2–3 weeks for ongoing protection and growth boost.
Which plants or crops is it effective on?

Trichoderma works on a wide variety of plants and crops — including the ones you grow at home! It’s great for herbs, leafy greens, flowering plants, succulents, and even houseplants like pothos, peace lilies, or monstera. Whether you’re into veggies or decorative foliage, Trichoderma helps improve root health and keeps soil-borne diseases away.

Can Trichoderma replace chemical fertilizers or fungicides?

It can significantly reduce reliance on chemicals—especially fungicides—through disease control and improved nutrient access. While some growers use it as a full substitute, combining it with reduced amounts of conventional fertilizers often delivers the best results.

Are there any precautions I should take?
  • Keep soil moist after application; dry conditions reduce effectiveness.
  • Avoid chemical fungicides for 4–5 days post-application, as they can harm Trichoderma.
  • Store spores properly, ideally cool and shaded, to maintain viability.
Can I mix Trichoderma with other microbe-based products?

Yes, it often pairs well with beneficial bacteria (like Bacillus or Pseudomonas) or mycorrhizae to enhance soil health and plant resilience. However, make sure strains are compatible to avoid competitive inhibition.

How long do effects last? Will I need to reapply?

In potted plants, Trichoderma stays active for a few weeks, especially if the soil is healthy and watered regularly. But since indoor pots have limited space and nutrients, it's helpful to reapply about once a month, or anytime you refresh the soil or repot. This keeps your plants growing strong and resilient all year round.

Is it safe for humans, animals, and beneficial insects?

Yes. Strains used in agriculture are non-pathogenic to humans, animals, and most beneficial insects. It’s considered safe and eco-friendly.

Why Trichoderma-Bacillus?

When CNJSHOPS’ founder, Cynthia, first settled in Singapore, she was struck by the city’s lush greenery—plants along balconies, corridors, and community gardens. For many, especially seniors, gardening was more than a hobby; it was a source of peace.

But she noticed a problem: many plants were cared for with chemical fertilizers or animal-based composts, often with unpleasant odours and health risks for children, pets, and the elderly.

Back in Vietnam, Cynthia knew of a safer way. Trichoderma, a natural fungus, has long been trusted to strengthen roots, enrich soil, and help crops like coffee and rice thrive—without toxins or bad smells. To her surprise, it was little known in Singapore.

Determined to change that, Cynthia spent nearly a year seeking approval. Finally, CNJSHOPS received the green light from the National Parks Board to import and distribute Trichoderma locally.

For Cynthia, this was more than a business milestone—it was the fulfilment of a dream: to give every household a safe, sustainable, and joyful way to garden.
